    Hello,
I am relatively new to Modx Revo. Using 2.2.0-pl2(traditional) and have installed NewsPublisher 1.2.1-pl2.
I am struggling with permissions. I have purchased Bob Ray's book and am slowly working through it and am also referring to his on-line - NewsPublisher guide.

It mentions in the on-line guide that Version 1.3.0 includes an access policy NewsPublisherEditor and allows users 'to operate NewsPublisher in the front end without giving the user any dangerous permissions'. As I cannot find v1.3.0 anywhere, nor find it in the package manager, I am unable to install it and thus get the appropriate Access Policy. Does anyone have a copy of this and the matching template, or won't they work with v1.2.1?
The guide also mentions that 'The NewsPublisherEditor Policy is based on the NewsPublisherPolicyTemplate, which in turn is based on the Administratror Policy Template but with the addition of the 'allow_modx_tags' permission. '

How on earth do I add this 'allow_modx_tags' permission?

    Very confusing :-(

    Thanks

Part of your problem is that the tutorial is ahead of the release. NP 1.3.0 is not out yet (though you can get it at GitHub on the Download page: https://github.com/BobRay/newspublisher/downloads).

      It should be out soon.

      In the meantime, you can

      Duplicate the Administrator policy template
Edit the duplicate by right-clicking on it and selecting "Update Policy Template"
Add the allow_modx_tags permission to it by clicking on the "Add Permission to Template" button
      Save it.
Create a new Policy based on the duplicate Admin template you just created.
Use that policy for the NP users.

You'll probably want to remove some of the permissions (e.g. access_permissions) on the duplicate policy (by unchecking them in the policy) so your users won't have too much power.

I think it will work in your version of MODX, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the quick response - extraordinary smiley
That clarifies things a lot. I will play around and see what I can achieve. Once I have things sorted I will download the 1.3.0 version (I note that it is RC) and try it on my test server.

        The assistance is greatly appreciated

When I allocate a resource to a group of users so that it can be edited via the front-end it ceases to be visible to the general public - only logged on users who have access to that resource group have the resource appear in the menu, Everything works correctly for a logged on user - they see it in the menu, have the edit button and can edit the document, but general users can no longer see it in the menu. Any suggestions?

            Thanks

Give the Anonymous user group web access to that resource group with Load, List, and View policy (Load only might do it, or not).

I gave the existing (anonymous) user group web access to the Resource Group as you suggested with Load, List and View policy. I used the minimum role of Member-9999. Still no access as before? Did I have to create a new 'Anonymous' user group? I also flushed cache, permissions and sessions.

Further to the above. The problem seems to be resolved.
I was using Chromium browser and that appears to have been the problem

When I switched to Firefox the permissions were working. but switching back to chromium they were not. I flushed the Chromium cache but nothing changed - still no menu items showing, and yet everything OK in Firefox. I then closed the Chromium browser and restarted it, connected to the site and there were the menu items. It seems that there is some problem with Chromium?

Chromium may not be clearing the cache when you tell it to. I think I've seen this with some versions of Chrome and FF as well. OTOH, MODX is sometimes cranky about clearing the MODX cache, especially on localhost Windows installs.

It's hard to follow instructions above. anything I do results in the following message:

Sorry . . . There were one or more problems in producing the form:
